Objectives

To support you with a feasibility study and business case for transitioning your diesel boiler system to an alternative fuel.

This co-funding ensures your fuel-switching project is rigorously investigated and analysed, giving you confidence in its success and return on investment.

Eligibility

  • Open to businesses based and registered in New Zealand, state-owned enterprises, local councils, and regional councils with bills of over $500,000 per year for their diesel boiler system.
  • You must own or manage the plant or building that the project relates to, and be committed to implementing the project.
  • Not eligible: Public service departments, non-public service departments (such as the New Zealand Defence Force), schools, and statutory crown entities.

What the funding covers

Co-funding is available for up to 40% of the cost of a feasibility study or business case, up to a maximum of $50,000.

This funding includes:

  • A detailed onsite analysis (minimum 1 day) of your system by a suitably qualified energy consultant.
  • A report exploring viable solutions, including detailed and comparable costings for each solution.

What kind of project is this for?

Projects can be in an industrial or commercial setting, and relate to any technology or process for diesel-fuelled process heat. For example, you may apply for funding to determine the viability of:

  • upgrading the diesel heating system for a commercial complex or hotel
  • converting or replacing a diesel fuel heat plant with one that uses renewable fuel.

How we assess applications

Each application is assessed on the quality of information provided, and how likely it is that the project will lead to cost-effective energy savings or uptake of renewable energy.

You may use a consultant to submit an application in the name of your business or organisation. They need to be a qualified independent consultant who has no vested interest in the recommended solutions.

Application process

We welcome you to apply at any time via your regional manager, or email business@eeca.govt.nz
