As part of our work to help consumers make informed choices about solar, EECA has developed an approved list of solar products to support homeowners when they are choosing rooftop solar panels, inverters and batteries.

Recommended solar products

EECA’s approved list makes it easy to choose solar technology that meets our recommendation for efficiency and demand flexibility. The list of panels and inverters will continue to grow, and batteries will be added soon.

The products included on the list have been assessed by EECA, and meet the criteria outlined in our technical specification.

Why choose products on this list?

Solar can lower your power bills and improve resilience, but conflicting or technical information can feel overwhelming. This list helps to find high quality products easily, for greater confidence when purchasing.

Technology is developing fast, and soon, your solar system, appliances, and the electricity grid will be able to communicate with each other to help manage flexible electricity use. This will smooth out peak demand and deliver lower power bills. The products on this list meet specifications to be part of this system, so they are future proofed.

Currently, solar panels last 25-30 years, so ensuring that systems installed on New Zealand homes are efficient and smart will help maximise the value from the energy they generate, over the course of their lives.

Approved solar panels

EECA has assessed and approved the solar photovoltaic panels included in the list below.

Approved inverters

EECA has assessed and approved the solar inverters included in the list below.

Technical specification for solar products

The approved list contains solar products that have met EECA’s technical specification for efficient and demand flexible solar systems.

Our specifications cover:

  • Minimum standards for energy efficiency across devices (panels, inverters and batteries) specifically designed for residential (10kW or less) and small business solar systems.
  • Solar panel durability standards for wind, hail, exposure to elements, and temperature, as well as safety tests
  • Battery capacity expected to retain at least 60% capacity after 3,000 cycles
  • Future-proofed equipment that is smart-grid ready, interoperable with other devices, including other smart home devices.

It has been produced following feedback from industry on a draft technical specification.
