As part of our work to help consumers make informed choices about solar, EECA is developing an approved list of solar products to support homeowners when they are choosing rooftop solar panels, inverters and batteries. Find information for suppliers on how the list is being developed, and how to apply.
Recommended solar products
EECA’s approved list will make it easy for consumers to choose rooftop solar panels, inverters and batteries that meet our recommendation for efficiency and demand flexibility.
We’re welcoming suppliers of solar products in New Zealand to register with EECA and apply to have their products on the approved list, if they meet our technical specification.
Efficient solar technology supports uptake
Solar can improve energy resilience and affordability, but consumers often report feeling overwhelmed by conflicting or technical information. Helping New Zealanders to find high quality products easily, and giving them greater confidence when purchasing, can help support the uptake of efficient and smart technology.
Current solar systems last up to 20 years, so ensuring that systems installed on New Zealand homes are efficient and smart will help maximise the value from the energy they generate, over the course of its life.
A flexible solar system can communicate externally ensuring that it works together with the other appliances in homes and the electricity grid via two-way communication.

How we're working with industry
Lack of confidence in solar installer capability and system performance is a key barrier to uptake. EECA is aiming to work with industry to strengthen trust in solar quality, support consistent best practice, and help more New Zealanders adopt renewable energy safely and effectively.
EECA is currently seeking feedback on its draft approach to endorse industry-led accreditation programmes to assess and accredit installers of solar PV and battery systems. We’re working with industry to ensure the approach is practical, credible, and supports a strong, high-quality solar market in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Technical specification for solar products
The approved list will contain solar products that have met EECA’s technical specification for efficient and demand flexible solar systems. The specification covers panels, inverters, and batteries specifically designed for residential (10kW or less) and small business solar systems. It has been produced following feedback from industry on a draft technical specification.
