EECA has an approved list of EV chargers recommended for residential use. The list has been developed to help New Zealanders identify, and purchase, EV chargers that use 'smart' technology and are energy efficient.
Recommended EV chargers
A wall-mounted charger will charge your EV faster and more safely than a three-pin plug but they're not all created equal.
Smart chargers can adjust when and how your EV chargers, helping you save money on your energy bills, and supporting the electricity grid by avoiding peak times.

Two-way EV chargers
Two-way chargers are capable of both taking electricity to charge a vehicle and exporting stored energy from the vehicle back to a building or the electricity network. They enable EVs to act as flexible storage, supporting household or business energy use, and contributing to wider grid stability.
Two-way charging technologies are still emerging in the New Zealand market. While interest is growing, charger availability and vehicle compatibility is limited and standards are still developing. Before purchasing a two-way charger, check with your vehicle manufacturer and charger installer about compatibility, warranty implications, electrical safety and grid connectivity requirements.
