Televisions

MEPS and MEPL cover televisions defined as a display device; designed for the primary purpose of showing television pictures; and supplied with a television tuner. This includes multifunction televisions and display devices supplied in modular form with an external television tuner.

MEPS and MEPL do not apply to,

• Handheld televisions powered solely by batteries (including built in rechargeable systems, which cannot be powered directly from mains), or
• display devices that do not have a television tuner and are not sold in a modular form with an external television tuner, or
• front or rear projection display devices (projectors).

The MEPS requirement for televisions is a maximum operating power consumption that must not be exceeded under test conditions.

The maximum operating power is adjusted depending on screen area (cm²).

The MEPS levels are listed in section 5.3 of AS/NZS 62087.1:2010.
