Tubman Heating is a New Zealand-owned provider of industrial and commercial heating solutions with more than 40 years’ experience in boilers, burners and energy systems. The company delivers heating and energy infrastructure solutions including boiler and burner design, installation, maintenance and 24/7 servicing support.

Tubman Heating specialises in renewable and energy-efficient technologies including biomass boilers, electric boilers, heat recovery systems and commercial heat pumps designed to support emissions reduction and energy efficiency improvements across industrial and commercial facilities.

Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS), Heating-as-a-Service and Lease-to-Own solutions

Tubman Heating offers several finance-supported delivery models for renewable and low-emissions heating systems.

These include Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) and Heating-as-a-Service (HaaS) models delivered through full-service design, build, operate and maintain arrangements. Through its finance partner Sustainable Finance, Tubman can provide financing structures for steam and hot water heating systems that may include design, installation, servicing, warranties and optional fuel supply arrangements.

The company also offers lease-to-own arrangements that enable businesses to transition to renewable heating systems without significant upfront capital expenditure. Lease-to-own agreements are typically structured over approximately seven years, with servicing and fuel supply arrangements managed separately.

Areas of expertise

Biomass heating solutions

Tubman Heating provides biomass hot water and steam systems including wood chip and wood pellet boiler solutions for industrial and commercial applications. Services include system design, fuel matching, installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance support.

Electric boiler solutions

The company delivers electric steam and hot water boilers ranging from smaller commercial systems to larger industrial-scale applications aligned with New Zealand’s renewable electricity system.

Heat recovery and heat pump systems

Tubman Heating supplies heat recovery systems and commercial heat pump technologies designed to capture and reuse waste heat, reducing energy consumption and emissions.

Project capability

Project size: NZ$100,000 to NZ$30 million

Delivery approach: Project delivery undertaken directly by Tubman Heating in collaboration with recognised boiler manufacturers and specialist subcontractors where required.

Project process

Typical project prerequisites include:

  • Energy management assessments
  • Site visits and technical assessments
  • Credit rating reviews

Projects are generally developed in collaboration with customers to identify suitable heating technologies, financing structures and operational requirements.

Funding and ownership

Repayment and risk

Through Sustainable Finance, Tubman Heating can offer long-term fixed-rate leasing solutions or repayment structures linked to consumption, generation or operational metrics.

“As-a-service” arrangements are generally structured over longer contract terms aligned with the useful life of the heating equipment, while lease-to-own agreements are typically structured over approximately seven years.

Under Energy-as-a-Service and Heating-as-a-Service models, Tubman Heating is generally responsible for maintenance, operation and fuel supply obligations under term service agreements. Under lease-to-own arrangements, operational and technology risks generally transfer to the customer once the system is installed.

Leasing structures may allocate risk between parties depending on the financing arrangement, with Sustainable Finance typically retaining ownership under “as-a-service” models. Sustainable Finance can fund up to 100% of installed asset value. Financing is arranged through a third-party provider and managed by Tubman Heating.

Ownership

During the agreement: Assets are generally owned by the provider under leasing and “as-a-service” structures, with Sustainable Finance acting as the legal owner during the contract term.

At the end of the agreement: Customers may purchase equipment at an agreed residual value, ownership may transfer automatically under lease-to-own structures, or agreements may continue through re-leasing or re-contracting arrangements.
