Dr Marcos Pelenur, Chief Executive of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), will step down from his role at the Crown entity later this year.
EECA Board Chair Elena Trout paid tribute to Dr Pelenur for his leadership and contribution since joining EECA in September 2023.
“Marcos has challenged us to think differently about how we deliver impact for New Zealanders.
“He has led EECA through a significant strategic reset, sharpening our focus on the challenges and opportunities facing energy users today, while positioning the organisation to support a more resilient, secure and affordable energy system.
“There have been many highlights during his tenure. In particular, I would like to acknowledge his leadership in advancing understanding of the potential for a smarter electricity system that embraces distributed flexibility, solar generation and supporting infrastructure, enabling New Zealanders to use energy more efficiently and reduce costs.
“Under his leadership, EECA also strengthened its commercial capability, exploring new financing models and acting as a connector between the banking, finance and energy sectors.”
Ms Trout said the Board was grateful for Dr Pelenur's leadership and dedication.
“Marcos has been a tireless advocate for both EECA’s mission and its people. He leaves EECA with a clear direction and a strong foundation for the future.
“On behalf of the Board, I thank Marcos for his vision and commitment, and wish him every success in the future.”
Dr Pelenur will remain Chief Executive until September before taking up a new role in the infrastructure sector.
Recruitment for a new Chief Executive will commence shortly.
