Spotlight on energy projects

EECA follows and shares the progress of clean and clever energy projects around New Zealand, particularly if we have contributed co-funding to the project.

Electricity meets marine innovation

Electric Wave has launched the country's first public electric boat chargers at Queenstown Marina.

The 3 marine-side chargers provide 300kW of combined power, supporting the shift to cleaner, electric boating across the region.

Electric Wave has launched New Zealand’s first publicly accessible electric marine-side chargers at Queenstown Marina.

The project is spearheaded by Xero founder Rod Drury and co-funded by the Low Emission Transport Fund.

EECA’s Group Manager – Delivery and Partnerships Richard Briggs says the new chargers’ presence will stimulate conversations and get local marine businesses thinking about electrifying their businesses.

“Installing this infrastructure overcomes a key barrier to the region’s marine businesses making the transition to more energy efficient vessels that save on fuel and maintenance costs, as well as eliminate the chance of fuel spills into the marina.”

Electric Wave is a pioneer in sustainable marine innovation, dedicated to creating eco-friendly solutions that enhance the way people experience and interact with the water, from advanced electric propulsion systems to innovative designs.

The e-marina project has also been supported by local lines company Aurora, with the installation of a large capacity transformer, and Meridian, who provided power and charger management services through Zero, their public charging network.
