About the consultation
SNZ PAS 5210:2024, the publicly available specification (PAS) for high-temperature heat pumps, is being updated to include expanded guidance on industrial high-temperature heat pump technology, specifically systems delivering supply temperatures above 100°C.
The draft is now open for public comment. Submissions close 20 March 2026.
Why this update matters
This update has been funded by EECA to ensure the guidance reflects current technology and industry good practice. High-temperature heat pump technology is evolving rapidly, and up-to-date information is essential to support informed investment and design decisions.
The draft includes updated and expanded information on:
- Types of high-temperature heat pumps available for industrial applications
- Refrigerants used in industrial high-temperature systems
- Drying as an application of industrial high-temperature heat pump technology
What is a PAS?
A publicly available specification (PAS) is a document developed by a national standards body to respond to a specific market need. While not a national standard, a PAS is developed through expert consensus.
This PAS was developed by the P5210 Technical Advisory Group, who represent a range of expertise across energy and carbon management, refrigeration and HVAC engineering, technology and installation, and health and safety.
The guidance references and draws upon relevant Australian/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS) and international standards as well as legislation to ensure it reflects latest good practice.
Help shape the final draft
This draft is the result of the combined knowledge and experience of the Technical Advisory Group. Public consultation allows anyone with an interest to provide feedback or suggestions to help shape the final version.
You can review the draft version on Standards New Zealand’s Consultation hub, where you will also find a submission form.
After public consultation closes on 20 March 2026, the technical advisory group will review all feedback and make any changes they consider appropriate, before the final version is voted upon to ensure consensus.
