Award winning energy efficiency

Two companies were recognised for their commitment to energy efficiency in the 2015 Wares Awards.

Fujitsu General New Zealand has been honoured with the EECA ENERGY STAR Supplier Partner of the Year Award and 100% Errol Rogers in Kerikeri was named ENERGY STAR Retailer Partner of the Year.

EECA’s Efficient Products Manager Eddie Thompson said Fujitsu General New Zealand has made energy efficiency a fundamental aspect of its product development, sales and marketing strategy.

“This includes applying the ENERGY STAR on qualifying products and marketing ENERGY STAR.”

Mr Thompson said 100% Errol Rogers in Kerikeri was judged the best retail store for championing ENERGY STAR.

“100% Errol Rogers shows huge commitment to using the ENERGY STAR on appliances and in retail promotions. The store also scored highly for its in-store knowledge about the energy efficiency of products.”

Mr Thompson said ENERGY STAR is an internationally recognised standard of energy efficiency that is only found on the most energy efficient appliances. The market share of ENERGY STAR approved appliances (whiteware, TVs, heat pumps) increased 18 percent in the year to the end of March 2014 (59% compared to 41% in the previous year), Mr Thompson said.

“As an internationally recognised mark, more manufacturers are opting to participate in the programme by producing products that meet ENERGY STAR standards.”
From 2002 – 2014, there were 47 million energy efficient products sold in New Zealand, Mr Thompson said.

“This has saved the country $450 million to date in running costs ($284 million in the home and $166 million in business).”

Thirty nine companies entered the energy efficiency categories in the Wares Awards.
