Round 3: Demonstration of vehicles and technology

These vehicle types are eligible in this round:

• Passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, vans): classes MA, MB and MC.
• Omnibuses (buses): classes MD, MD1-4 and ME.
• Goods vehicles (trucks): classes NA, NB and NC.
• Off-road vehicles limited to side-by-side vehicles meeting the equivalent of the Roll Over Protective Standard (ROPS) OSHA 1928.51 and registered in New Zealand as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) for road use under exempt classes A or B. Note, this round excludes ATVs with no ROPS and all other types of off-road vehicles including tractors.
• Electric outboard motors of up to 40-50hp, meeting the required health and safety standards and regulations for the region they operate in and the type of vessel. Note the cost of the boat body is excluded from co-funding.

There are generally up to two funding rounds per year for each investment focus area. Applicants have approximately four weeks to submit proposals after the funding round opens. Applications are assessed by a panel against the fund objectives and investment focus, the applicant’s ability to deliver, and the project's value for money.

The assessment panel makes recommendations to EECA to make a final decision. The application process takes around four months.

Recipients will be required to share knowledge, reporting and data with EECA as part of the Funding Agreement which will set out how, when and with whom it will be shared.

All projects must follow the investment principles and meet the eligibility criteria set out in the Request for Proposals.

You can apply for up to 50% of total project costs to a maximum of $500,000. Other proposals will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. To qualify, projects must be at least $50,000 (total core project cost).

This funding round is open to all New Zealand-based and New Zealand-registered legal entities except Public Service Departments, Non-Public Service Departments (such as the New Zealand Defence Force), and Statutory Crown Entities such as District Health Boards.

The following types of organisations are eligible to submit proposals:

• State-owned Enterprises
• Local Councils
• Regional Councils.

Proposals must be for projects delivered in New Zealand, however overseas-based project partners may be involved.

EECA works with successful applicants to put contracts in place and share results. Co-funding is paid out when projects reach agreed milestones and agreed reports, and supporting information is provided — this is detailed in the Project Funding Agreement. Co-funding cannot be paid retrospectively.
