ENCORE Efficiency is an international energy efficiency platform focused on reducing energy costs for industrial and commercial organisations.

Founded in 2014 in Germany, ENCORE operates under a model directly linked to achieved energy savings. The core team brings over 25 years of experience in energy services. ENCORE operates across Europe and is ready to deliver projects in New Zealand.

The company specialises in optimising industrial and commercial utilities and provides energy-savings-linked finance (often off-balance sheet or “as-a-service”), supported by robust measurement and verification processes.

A key shareholder, KAEFER SE & Co. KG(external link), strengthens ENCORE’s international network and delivery capability.

Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) - Energy-savings-linked finance

ENCORE develops, funds, and delivers energy efficiency projects. Project costs can be financed (including off-balance sheet structures), with repayments made from a share of verified energy cost savings. A defined level of savings is contractually guaranteed (typically 75%).

Delivered through an Energy Performance Lease or “as-a-service” model with open-book cost transparency and shared-savings pricing. Contracts typically run up to 10 years (depending on asset life and payback), with investment fully repaid over the contract term.

Areas of expertise

End-to-end energy efficiency projects (EPC)

From identification and design through to installation, commissioning, and ongoing performance verification.

Utility and process optimisation

Including heat, steam, boilers, CHP, cooling, compressed air, ventilation, LED lighting, and solar PV.

Energy-savings-linked finance model

“As-a-service” structures with performance guarantees and verified outcomes.

Additional capabilities

Energy audits and business case development with guaranteed savings. Industrial decarbonisation and fuel switching (e.g. heat pumps, electric boilers, solar integration). Energy analytics and control optimisation (ENCORE Dynamics). Long-term, multi-site programmes.

Project capability

Project size: NZ$2 million to NZ$60 million

Delivery approach: Full project delivery from initial assessment through to implementation and performance verification, using in-house expertise, specialist partners, and savings-linked financing. Capability to operate nationwide.

Project process

Projects begin with an identification phase, including provision of asset, energy use, and operational data, and site access for audits and interviews.

This is followed by a development phase covering detailed design and a business case with guaranteed savings. A framework agreement is then established to define commercial and financing terms.

Funding and ownership

Repayment and risk

Payments are made from a share of verified energy cost savings, with a defined level of savings (typically 75%) contractually guaranteed.

ENCORE takes on performance and technology risk, supported by contractual guarantees and verification processes. No upfront capital investment is required, with savings delivered through reduced operating costs. Operational responsibility typically transfers after project handover (unless agreed otherwise).

Ownership

During the agreement: Equipment is owned by ENCORE under a service or lease model.

At the end of the agreement: Ownership arrangements vary depending on the financing structure (e.g. transfer, purchase, or retained ownership by ENCORE).

Upfront capital required: No

Financing arrangement: Structured and managed by ENCORE, with third-party funding partners
