Strategic Communications Specialist

Wellington based - Full time - Permanent

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) is a government agency that aims to improve the environmental, economic and social well-being of New Zealanders, through the uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy.  We aim to influence the energy decisions of households, businesses, motorists and transport operators through the provision of trusted information and targeted programmes.

This role is responsible for finding and delivering on opportunities to reinforce EECA’s authoritative voice. This role plans and manages EECA’s strategic communications and ensures that the relevance of EECA’s work is well understood by government, industry stakeholders, media and the general public.

We are looking for someone who will work proactively and innovatively to communicate EECA’s messages on energy efficiency and renewable energy, through new and existing channels. You will lead the development and implementation of the communications and stakeholder engagement strategy to support and enhance EECA’s reputation and authoritative voice.  You will be expected to craft speeches, presentations, media releases and opinion pieces that highlight EECA’s key messages.

This role is also expected to take a lead in managing communications risks and media enquiries.  As such, the successful candidate will have experience in media management and be government and politically savvy.
