Regulatory steps for importers and manufacturers

Overview of regulatory steps for importers and manufacturers

This section outlines the steps that must be followed to comply with the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations 2002, in order to sell your product legally in New Zealand or export it from New Zealand to sell in Australia.

The importer of the product into New Zealand or the manufacturer of a product made in New Zealand, must complete and submit the prescribed forms to register their product for sale.

More details and forms for completion are available in the link for each individual step.

1.   Testing

Ensure that you can prove in Court and at any time EECA requests, that your product complies with its corresponding minimum energy performance standards (MEPS):

  • By ensuring your product has been tested to and meets the requirements of the correct Standard
  • By ensuring you have access to the test report for your product and can supply this report to EECA within five working days if requested.
