EECA in conjunction with the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand (BANZ) and the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) have developed a database of heat plant in New Zealand sized greater than one hundred kilowatts thermal and categorised by industrial sector as at April 2008. This report updates the 2006 Heat Plant Survey.

This study carried out by Aircomm Consultants Limited for Queenstown Lakes District Council investigates the feasibility of a district heating scheme to supply heating to Queenstown Airport, Lakes District Hospital, Alpine Aqualand (swimming pool) and the Queenstown Events Centre.

The centralised wood-chip boiler plant described in the study is not considered to be feasible in this situation.

Goldpine Industries Limited produce fencing posts and other timber products at their Golden Downs site. The process produces a timber waste product that can be used as a fuel. However the fuel produces unique challenges in handling due to its bridging properties. This monitoring report looks at how Goldpine overcame the fuel handling challenges.

The Invercargill City Council Parks Department has installed a wood chip boiler at their plant nursery. The new boiler replaces a coal boiler and provides heating to approximately 450 square metres of greenhouses. This monitoring report outlines how the installation went.
