Home Energy Rating Scheme
The Home Energy Rating programme has been developed to give New Zealanders the knowledge they need to make informed choices about their homes. Lack of information has been identified as a major barrier to the uptake of energy efficiency in the residential sector. The Home Energy Rating programme aims to increase awareness of the benefits and encourage uptake of energy efficiency measures in the home. The programme was launched on a voluntary basis from December 2007.
The Home Energy Rating programme is one of a broad package of Government initiatives working towards warm, healthy homes with reduced energy costs and lower environmental impact.
Visit EECA's ENERGYWISE™ website for more information about Home Energy Ratings.
What is A HOME ENERGY RATING?
A Home Energy Rating is an assessment of the energy efficiency performance of a home. It includes the building itself, and the two biggest energy users in a home - the room heating and the water heating systems. A qualified assessor evaluates the home, then generates a report containing star ratings showing the energy performance of the home, and professional recommendations on the most appropriate actions to improve the home's rating.
