LED (‘light emitting diode') light bulbs are a highly efficient new lighting technology, but quality and performance can really vary from product to product.

The good news is that ENERGY STAR for LED light bulbs is coming, and it'll make it simple for you to identify high quality, high performance products.

EECA is currently working with suppliers of LED light bulbs that meet ENERGY STAR's strict criteria. Once registered, the qualified bulbs will be listed here.

What to look for in an LED light bulb

Until the little blue ENERGY STAR mark is out there to guide you, there are two important things to look for in an LED light bulb:

1. A three-year minimum warranty

2. A product that's from a reputable manufacturer

As with any other type of light bulb you choose, it's important to get the right light for the job. Consider the amount of light output you need, what colour light you prefer, and whether it needs to be a dimmable bulb.
