Mike Underhill
Mike Underhill joined the EECA team as Chief Executive on 9 May 2007.
Mike was formerly Chief Executive of WEL Networks, and has spent many years in the gas and electricity sector in New Zealand and overseas.
He has a Bachelor degree in engineering, a master's degree in economics, has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard and is a Fellow of Institution of Professional Engineers.
Mike is married to Teresa and has three daughters and three grandchildren.
Ian Horne
Ian Horne joined the EECA team as General Manager Corporate in October 2006.
Ian has had substantial experience in both the private and public sector. He initially joined the public sector to lead the state sector and public finance reforms in the New Zealand Customs Service. He moved to the Public Trust in 2001 to implement a reform programme to return Public Trust to profitability. His diverse private sector experience spans from banking to the motor industry.
He has a Master of Business Administration (with honours) from Massey University, has completed the Strategic Management Programme at Henley, and is a graduate of the Jonahsm programme.
Ian is married to Cyndy and has two daughters and four grandsons.
Bill Brander
Bill Brander manages the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy and Business Development. Before joining EECA to manage its energy services and business sector activities, he worked for a number of years as an engineering and energy consultant to industry and commercial building managers.
Bill has a Bachelor degree in engineering, a master's degree in resource management and is a Fellow of Institute of Professional Engineers.
Mark Ngan Kee
Mark leads the Finance and Information Technology teams and has been with EECA since June 2007. He has a Batchelor of Commerce & Administration Degree (Victoria) and is a CA (Chartered Accountant) member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. Mark has extensive experience and expertise in a wide range of organisations and industries, including chartered accounting, financial services, insurance, investment management, information technology and retail.
Murray Bell
Murray manages EECA’s Business team, focusing on EECA’s industrial and commercial initiatives including Emprove, EnergyWise Government programme, crown energy efficiency loan scheme and energy audit grant scheme.
Murray is also responsible for working on the energy intensive business pilot programme as well as the bio-energy initiative of the Forest Industry Development Agenda.
Originally trained as a civil engineer, Murray has worked in banking, local government and was employed by the Ministry for the Environment for 10 years before joining EECA in 2004.
Robert Tromop
Robert leads EECA's Monitoring and Technical Group. Key roles include monitoring energy end use efficiency in the New Zealand economy, and providing research and technical support for a range of EECA and Climate Change Office programmes. Robert’s 10 years at EECA have included roles covering regional responsibilities, technical programmes and the development of the National Strategy. Previously Robert worked in engineering consultancy.
Fiona Weightman
Fiona has worked in the UK on energy issues. She was Energy Campaigner at Friends of the Earth, working on renewable energy and energy efficiency. In New Zealand she worked for the Sustainable Energy Forum before joining EECA as the Renewable Energy Facilitator in 1996. Fiona has managed Strategy and Government Relations, the team responsible for developing the National Strategy. Since August 2003 she has been Energy Supply Manager. Fiona has an honours degree in History and Political Science from Victoria University.
Katie Mathison
Katie manages EECA's community programmes, which are focused on achieving more energy efficient homes and transport. Katie's previous position was Public Relations Manager for Meat & Wool New Zealand. She also worked in external relations at the Department of Conservation, and as an investigator at the Commerce Commission. Originally from London, where she was a journalist for a consumer magazine, Katie has lived and worked in New Zealand for over ten years. Katie has an MBA with distinction from Massey University, is accredited in public relations (APR), and has an honours degree in Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition from Newcastle-upon-Tyne University.
Terry Collins
Terry is accountable for EECA’s Products Programme which has five major work streams:
- Energy Star®: a voluntary endorsement scheme that promotes the most energy efficient products in a product class
- Vehicle Fuel Economy Labelling: a mandatory scheme that provides fuel economy information for vehicles at point of sale
- Home Energy Ratings: programme investigating the potential for an energy rating system for houses in New Zealand
- Minimum Energy Performance Standards and Mandatory Energy Performance labelling for appliances and equipment
- Technical support for EECA’s delivery programmes.
Terry has a background in policy, quality management systems, regulatory compliance and standards development. Terry joined EECA in 2005 after a 26 year career in consumer protection. He is responsible for relationship management with Australian commonwealth, state and territory agencies who participate in the trans-Tasman, Equipment Energy Efficiency Programme.
Walter Friedel
Walter Friedel is the Manager, Government Advice and is responsible for the team that provides internal and external advice at both operational and strategic levels for the implementation of the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy. Walter is also responsible for managing EECA’s key relationships within the public sector, which includes the Minister of Energy, Government Spokesperson on Energy Efficiency and Conservation and energy/environment related government departments. Walter has worked in local government and for the Ministry of Justice prior to joining EECA. Walter has a degree in political science and an MBA from Canterbury University.
Agnes Reynders
Agnes leads the Human Resources and Corporate Services team and has been with EECA since April 2007. She has a Masters degree in applied Industrial and Organisational Psychology and has held led HR teams in a number of large public and private sector organisations both in New Zealand and overseas. This work has spanned a number of different industries, including central banking, investment management, tax, call centres, telecommunications, insurance, justice and executive recruitment.
