ENERGY STAR TV specification version 4.0 and version 5.0
Televisions will soon need to be 40% more energy efficient than conventional models to achieve the Energy Star label.
The version 4.0 and 5.0 ENERGY STAR specifications for televisions have been finalised by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as of September 3, 2009.
These requirements establish challenging on mode power consumption levels, take steps to ensure a TV is viewed in the mode in which it qualified for ENERGY STAR so consumer savings are realised, and curb energy associated with downloading program guide data.
The effective date in the United States for the version 4.0 requirements in this specification is May 1, 2010, version 5.0 requirements is May 1, 2012.
EECA is yet to confirm when the specification will be adopted in New Zealand.
