Replacement of the New Zealand Energy Efficiency & Conservation Strategy

13 August 2009

In October 2007, the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (NZEECS) was published. It sets out the action plan for energy efficiency and conservation actions, and assigns responsibility for the delivery of each action to a central or local Government agency. EECA's work programmes are guided by the goals of the NZEECS.

The NZEECS is a subset of the New Zealand Energy Strategy which was also published in 2007.

The New Zealand Energy Strategy (NZES) is now being updated. The Minister of Energy and Resources announced his intention to update the strategy in February 2009.

The New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (NZEECS) is also being replaced.

Notice of decision

Pursuant to Section 12(3)(a) of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000, I give notice of my decision to replace the national energy efficiency and conservation strategy. The Ministry of Economic Development will prepare a replacement strategy on my behalf.

Dated 3 August 2009

Hon Gerry Brownlee, Minister of Energy and Resources
