2009 sponsors

Shell New Zealand

For the past three years Shell has been a proud supporter of the EECA Awards and we are pleased to continue our association in 2009 as a principal sponsor.

As the global population grows and energy demand increases, we all need to use energy more efficiently.

As an energy company we see ourselves operating in a world governed by three hard truths:

1. The global demand for energy is growing, both in the developed and developing world. This will mean greater demand for oil and gas, too.

2. Supplies of "easy oil" - accessible, conventional oil and gas - cannot keep up with the growth in energy demand. As a result, society has no choice but to add other sources of energy - including alternatives like solar, wind and biofuels and "unconventional" fossil fuels like oil sands, oil shale and contaminated gas. Even with huge improvements in energy efficiency and substantial growth in renewables, fossil fuels will still be the major part of the energy mix by mid century.

3. More energy means more CO2 emitted at a time when climate change looms as a critical global issue. The societal imperative to limit greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at a level less than 550 ppm will require the strict management of CO2 emissions from both the production of energy and its use by consumers.

These three hard truths pose obvious dilemmas that can only be reconciled through joint, concerted efforts by governments, industry and consumers. The task of balancing the accessibility, affordability and acceptability of energy will not be an easy one.

Our role, at Shell, is to develop, extract and deliver energy from diverse sources. We are determined to doing so profitably and in socially and environmentally responsible ways.

Fujitsu General New Zealand Ltd

Fujitsu General New Zealand Ltd is New Zealand's leading supplier of energy efficient, ENERGY STAR™ heatpumps and air conditioning systems.

The unique Fujitsu Heatpump technology allows for the most efficient use of energy resources to provide effective climate control for domestic and commercial locations. The Fujitsu exclusive NOCRIA product cleans its own filters to improve efficiency and has an Ultra Violet lamp inside the indoor unit to sanitise the air and the inside of the unit. The PLASMA models have been designed with an electrostatic filter that removes mould spores and bacteria in the air. That model is ideally suited for improving New Zealanders health in the home and is proven to reduce Asthma and Allergy symptoms when used correctly.

Fujitsu heat pumps are one of the most economical and energy efficient ways to heat a home or commercial location. This is because the Fujitsu Heatpump technology doesn't use power to create heat: it simply transfers the existing free heat in or out of your location. In fact, for every $1 spent on energy for other heating options, customers enjoy the equivalent of more than $4 worth of output heat from a Fujitsu Heatpump solution.

To ensure greater efficiency and customer satisfaction of the Fujitsu product, Fujitsu General NZ Limited has implemented an Accredited Installer network. These installers are people who have been checked for knowledge of the product and have agreed to install the product to Fujitsu Specifications. Heat pumps work efficiently only when they have been designed and installed correctly. All Fujitsu Accredited Installers carry an ID card with their photo for clear identification.

Fujitsu General NZ Limited have a very informative website with access to a free copy of the "Smarter Heat Pump Guide" specifications of all their Heatpump and air conditioning units and access for installers at www.fujitsugeneral.co.nz

Fujitsu General New Zealand Ltd is a proud principle sponsor of the EECA Awards and wholeheartedly endorse the goals and initiatives of EECA.
