Innovation fund project - Serviceman Ltd
George St Studio Accommodation, Dunedin
This installation is a great example for landlords who pay for electricty and water on behalf of their tenants and are interested in reducing their power bills and improving hot water supply for their tennants.
The studio is a two storied character brick home that has been converted to a 14 room student accomodation block with common bathroom and kitchen facilities. This type of conversion is becoming more common.
Two hot water cylinders were replaced with a 450L solar cylinder, 7m2 of collector panels and a Solastat constroller.
Annual electricity consumption in the accomodation was previously $8,000 of which $3,500 was for water heating. The project owner will undertake 12 months of monitoring with electricity and water flow meters to assess the performance of this system.
Results will be made available when the monitoring of this project is complete.
