Solar funding for public swimming pools

Solar heating can deliver significant savings for heating swimming pools, and extend the swimming season for outdoor pools.
  • Pools owned by govenrment are eligible for a payment of up to 25% of the cost of unglazed solar water product
  • A pool cover/blanket is required to be used to reduce heat loss when the pool is not in use
  • Installations of unglazed solar water heating systems must be carried out by swimming pool solar water heating trades people who must exercise and display a level of skill and knowledge and a duty of care and service commensurate with their training.
    Installations must comply with any applicable central or local government legislation, regulations and bylaws and completed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Evidence of a building consent must be provided or written confirmation from the relevant council that consent is not required
  • Performance modelling may be required (at EECA's expense) where the solar system is not sufficiently similar to other systems/pools completed in the programme or if EECA consider the proposed design features require further review

How to apply

Applications are received and assessed throughout the financial year as funding is available.

Currently the fund is oversubscribed and applications are on hold until additional funding becomes available.  If you are planning installing solar water heating and are interested in government funding support, please email solarfinance@eeca.govt.nz or phone 0800 358 676 and ask for the grants advisor, to find out when the fund re-opens.
