Proposed minimum energy performance standards and labelling for computers and monitors

This document sets out, and seeks your feedback on, a draft proposal for new minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) and labelling for computers and computer monitors, proposed for introduction no earlier than October 2012.

The document sets out:

• How improved energy efficiency of computers and computer monitors can benefit New Zealand, and what the barriers are to this happening.
• The policy context in New Zealand - and jointly with Australia - for improving the efficiency of computers and computer monitors.
• A detailed proposal for introducing minimum energy performance standards and labelling for computers and computer monitors, and the likely costs and benefits of this proposal.
• Processes for implementing and reviewing the new standards, if they are agreed to.
