ANZ bank adopts energy management policies and systems

Case studies
1 March 2009

Setting and implementing an energy management policy has helped ANZ National Bank achieve significant energy savings.

Part of their energy management programme, evaluated the lighting used in their premises. Installing more efficient lighting tubes has created a direct energy saving worth around $50,000 a year. Further savings were achieved in electrical maintenance, where costs have dropped from $150,000 a year to around $10,000.

The company is now looking at a new project by working with the IT staff to clear away obstacles to switching off the bank's 10,000 PCs at night. If successful the bank stands to cut its total annual electricity consumption by 20% and gain $1.2 million in annual savings.
