Marine energy deployment fund
The marine energy deployment fund has been set up through EECA to bring forward the development of marine energy in New Zealand, by supporting the deployment of generating devices.
The fund provides grants to deploy devices in the New Zealand marine environment to provide information and practical experience.
Grants will be made in four rounds, from 2008 to 2012, from a total fund of $8 million.
Applications to the fund are assessed by an expert panel, with grants offered to projects that best meet a number of criteria.
Results of funding round one
The first marine energy deployment fund grant of $1.85 million was awarded to Crest Energy for a tidal stream generator project at the entrance to Kaipara Harbour, north of Auckland, subject to resource consents being obtained.
Results of funding round two
In funding round two, $760,000 was awarded to the WET-NZ project put forward by Power Projects Ltd and Industrial Research Ltd. Read press release.

Applications for round three of this fund open on Friday 31 July 2009 and will close on Monday 23 November 2009.

Marine Energy Deployment Fund Panel - request for expressions of interest
EECA is now calling for expressions of interest in being a member of the Fund Evaluation Panel for Round Three of the Fund. As a member of the panel you will assess and make recommendations on each application to the Fund.
The Minister of Energy and Resources will make the final decision on the appointment of the Fund Evaluation Panel members.
If you are interested in applying to sit on the Fund Evaluation Panel please send your application to Gaynor Jessep at EECA by 5 pm on Monday 9 November 2009.
