Because we use them daily and often keep them for a long time, it really makes sense to choose and use your appliances wisely. You'll reduce your energy use without compromising your lifestyle.

Appliances make up about 40% of the average household's electricity bill, but you can make real savings by powering your appliances more efficiently. It all adds up, which is
great for your pocket and the environment.

Recent research has shown that a building energy rating scheme (BERS) would be a cost effective measure to promote the improved energy performance of commercial buildings.

Given the benefits, EECA wants to promote the use of BERS in New Zealand. Although a number of BERS operate effectively overseas, none are yet established in New Zealand.

As an introductory measure, EECA would like to facilitate a BERS into New Zealand to be delivered by industry. This BERS would provide a quick, simple and inexpensive energy rating.
