Air conditioners: upcoming work

Close control air conditioners

New minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) are proposed from July 2009 for close control air conditioners imported or manufactured for sale in New Zealand and Australia. Following is a link to a presentation from the HVAC conference in Sydney last month which outlines the proposal.

A regulatory impact statement outlining the proposal is due in the next few months and submissions on it will be welcomed. Contact the Products team at EECA on 0800 358 676 or at regs@eeca.govt.nz for more information, or to be added to our contact list.

A new standard will set test methods and MEPS levels for close control air conditioners.

Room air conditioners: Increased minimum energy performance standards - delayed to 2009/2010.

As part of the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) work programme, increased minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for air conditioners were proposed for October 2008.

As a result of feedback from industry, these increased MEPS will be postponed until April 2010. The delay will allow industry more time to prepare for a revised energy labelling algorithm.

Revised energy labelling algorithm and new energy rating label
A revised energy labelling algorithm (the calculation used to determine an energy rating) and a new energy rating label are proposed for 2010.

A regulatory impact statement for the above MEPS and labelling proposals is due in the next few months and public submissions will be welcomed.
