Revised energy labelling algorithm and new energy rating label
As part of the ongoing work of the trans-Tasman equipment energy efficiency programme (E3), EECA and the Australian and government agencies responsible for product energy efficiency are currently investigating a revised energy labelling algorithm (the calculation used to determine a star rating) and a new energy rating label for refrigerators and freezers.
The main aim of this project is to implement a revised energy label for refrigerators and freezers that is both technically sound and that will provide a solid basis for the rating of products in New Zealand and Australia over at least the next 5 and more likely for as long as 10 or more years.
The proposed changes to the algorithm will result in the star rating on most refrigerators and freezers dropping by two stars. There will be a new label to reflect this change. As outlined in the cost benefit analysis, there will be a transition to phase in the the new label, with all models required to be registered and using the new label by October 2009.
