Energy End Use Database Background Information
This database is an update of the EECA 1994-95 energy end use database which was previously commercially available. This time around EECA has decided to make the database available to everyone for free. The database describes New Zealand's energy use in considerable detail, exploring energy use split by 11 fuels, 32 sectors, 20 end uses, 25 technologies, and by all local authority geographical areas.
Methodology
The database is a top down estimation of more detailed information. It is essentially an allocation of energy use to different sectors, regions, end-uses, technologies, and fuels based on known information about the distribution of sectors, and what energy they use and how they use it. Specific information has been used where possible but in most cases actual data was not available to fill in these gaps. There are about 40,000 records in the database and these can be aggregated to billions of different numbers.
Feedback
Given the size of the database, and its nature as a top down allocation, it is likely that some errors, omissions or strange numbers may have passed the reviewing stage. We welcome feedback on potential errors or improvements that can be made to the database or the interface, and encourage you to email energydatabase@eeca.govt.nz with any suggestions or feedback you might have.
Known Errors
If and when any errors are discovered, we will list them here.
Currently we are unaware of any issues.
