Transport

Energy use in transport

In New Zealand, about 44 % of our total energy is used in transporting us around.

We can improve the efficiency of our transport fleet by switching to more efficient vehicles, and we can conserve energy by changing our driving habits. We can also reduce our use of fossil fuels by switching to renewable sources of transport energy.

Our transport programme

Our transport programme aims to reduce fossil fuel use by providing information about which cars have better fuel economy, providing information on better driving techniques to consumers and businesses and encouraging and promoting biofuels and other renewable energy for transport.

We work closely with other agencies, including the Ministry of Transport, and the New Zealand Transport agency to improve the efficiency of our transport fleet.
