Insulation
Insulation and clean heating
There are around 900,000 houses (about two-thirds) in New Zealand with insufficient or no insulation, and our indoor temperatures fall well below World Health Organisation recommended limits. This results in cold, damp homes that waste energy and make the occupants sick.
Investing in insulation improves the energy efficiency of a home. It makes it warmer, drier and easier to heat. And this means healthier families who take less time off work and school.
Insulation projects in the regions also stimulate the local economy. Insulating houses in a labour intensive process and as the projects ramp up, more local people are employed.
Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart
The government has announced a new insulation and energy efficient heating programme to start on 1 July 2009.
