Industrial sector programmes
The potential for economic electricity savings in the industrial sector has been estimated as 1955 GWh a year, with motorised systems providing 91% of that potential.
Our industrial sector programmes focus principally on savings from improving the efficiency of electric motors and motorised systems.
Electric motors
EECA's electric motors programme aims to:
- speed up the replacement of in-service three-phase motors with those that meet minimum energy performance standards
- ensure that the efficiency of the in-service three-phase motors is maintained though through quality repairs and sound replacement and repair policies.
Motorised Systems
EECA's motorised systems efficiency programmes aims to improve the design, operation and maintenance of motorised systems that have most potential for economic electricity savings. There are two main programmes:
- The Compressed Air Systems (CAS) programme aims to improve the electricity efficiency of New Zealand's industrial compressed air systems
- The Motor Systems Optimization programme aims to identify and assist electricity efficiency improvements in pumping, fan and drive systems.
