Electricity efficiency
EECA's electricity efficiency programmes focus on three areas with high potential for energy and cost savings - lighting, the commercial sector and the industrial sector.
The programmes aim to help New Zealanders adopt more efficient and cost effective ways of using electricity.
The electricity efficiency programmes used to be run by the Electricity Authority (previously named the Electricity Commission).
In this section:
- Efficient lighting programmes - identified as the biggest area for potential electricity savings across all sectors.
- Commercial sector programmes - businesses can apply for funding to help overcome barriers to electricity efficiency.
- Industrial sector programmes - these programmes focus on improving the electricity efficiency of motors and motorised systems in the industrial sector.
Electricity levy consulation
The period for public submissions on the Electricity Authority and EECA priorities and programmes proposed to be funded by the electricity levy in 2011-12 is now closed.
The electricity levy is charged to electricity market participants mainly to fund the governance and operations of the electricity market. A small proportion of the levy is set aside for electricity efficiency programmes now managed by EECA.
Submissions received as part of the electricity levy consultation will be used by the Electricity Authority and EECA to develop recommendations on appropriations to the responsible Ministers. The results of the process will be reflected in the Authority and EECA Statements of Intent (SOI) to be published the day after the Government's Budget is tabled in Parliament in 2011
Further information is available on the Electricity Authority website.
