Replacing earthquake damaged chimneys with new efficient heating

This programme was set up following the September earthquake. It offers people whose chimneys were damaged the choice to replace their old log burners or open fires with a new, clean efficient heating system and the cost will be covered under their claim to the Earthquake Commission (EQC). 

Old, inefficient heaters cost a lot to run and often don't do a very good job of heating a home. They also contribute to Christchurch's air quality issues.

In most cases, it's more cost effective anyway to decommission or remove a damaged chimney and install an efficient heater than it is to repair or rebuild it.

The Chimney Replacement Programme has been rolled into Fletcher Construction's wider earthquake recovery programme.
