Central government energy policy
The Ministry for Economic Development (MED) is the organisation with overall responsibility for advising the Government on energy policy.
EECA implements Government policy in the areas of energy efficiency and conservation and renewable energy. EECA is one of a number of agencies implementing aspects of Government energy policy.
New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (NZEECS)
The New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (NZEECS) is the action plan for energy efficiency and conservation, and the use of renewable sources of energy. It also sets out who's responsible for delivering each action. EECA's work programmes are guided by the NZEECS. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000 requires that there is a national energy efficiency and conservation strategy in force at all times.
